B.K: "Well, already in Kindergarten the guitar was my favorite toy. But I never wanted to play alone and there fore I forced my fellows to be my involuntary band and I of course the singer.

The next step was the choir of the Music Elementary school in my hometown Feldkirchen. After 2 years I got kicked out of school, cause my rebellious behavior was way too much for my teacher.

With 16 years I was a member of a hard rock highschool band, but unfortunately we were just hanging out in the rehearsalroom.

At that time I heard the first time from a band called Fahrenheit. I was thrilled by their sound and my goal became to be the singer in a band like this. Funny how things happen, during my time at the army their singer (Johnny Kanatschnig) had his bed right above mine.

A little bit later because of an ad in a local newspaper I joined a group called Prisoners. A year later Scorpio Rose became my first selfinitisted band.

Everything got way more serious, when I got the offer to be the new frontman for Fahrenheit. A dream came true and I took the place of my army fellow-sufferer. In this period of my career I had the chance to learn so many important things and made my first major experiences in the music business. Played in front of 3000 to 5000 people a show, did several TV-shows. During this time I also met Umbo a very good friend of mine, who always encouraged me and carried me along whenever I was down and lost track.

After leaving Fahrenheit in 1992, I started writing my own songs and put my own band "CANTERRO" together (Bass...Umbo; Guitar...Sigo Greschitz; Drums...Tommy Prugger). We were rocking the house down as opening act for artists like "The Flying Pickets", Carmel!

1993 I decided to become a student at AIM in Vienna. There I learned from and worked wit great teacher such as:

  • Angus Bangus (Miles Davis Band)

  • Les Wise (Steve Wonder Band)

  • Leila Thigpen

  • Wayne Brasel

When I returned to Carinthia in 1994 I began to work on the reproduction to my first album. Canterro was a solo artist now. The EP "Solo" was released in February 95 and I got really great response. The song "The Key" was 7 weeks in the airplay-charts of a local radiostation, including 3 weeks on number one.

Hungry eyes and Divine Lady were produced by "Papermoon"-producer Wolfgang Czeland and were released on the Sampler Made in "Made in Vienna". Hungry eyes eventually got some airplay on Austria’s most important radiostation Ö3.

Since 1996 you can see Canterro live with 2 different line-ups:

Canterro unplugged:

  • Sigo Greschitz-guitar, backing vocals

  • Canterro-lead vocals and guitar

Canterro & Band

  • Same Line-up with additional guest musicians

B.K: I would like to my living with my music, but keeping my style Meaning staying as stubborn as I am.

B.K: There are so many great musicians out there, but one of my favorites would be Steve Perry (Journey) and Freddie Mercury (Queen). The music just needs to have that special something.Music has to come from inside, from your heart and your soul. It has to be a part of yourself and if you can share it with the audience, it doesn’t matter if its music from M.Carey or Metallica.

B.K: Intolerance, envy and arrogance. The things that cause war. (I don’t want to write political songs, rather let the listener forget his everyday problems and carry him away for moment. With political subjects in music you can’t change anything. In my opinion as a musician you’re a modern courtchester, who has to entertain his audience.

B.K: Everytime I am on a stage, cause then I am in my own REAL world then I am feeling really good!

And than there was this gig in 1992 in Straßburg . At that time many refugees from former Yugoslavia came into our country, amongst them many families with young kids. After The show they came to us and were really enthusiastic. The glance in the kids eyes were a very touching moment for me and isn’t this the best reason to make music.
